History of Fort Collins
Just North of Denver, Fort Collins is a municipality located in Northern Colorado. It was originally founded as an outpost of the United States Army and was built to replace Camp Collins. Eventually, in the mid-1800’s, Fort Collins started attracting inhabitants from around the United States. Fort Collins is such a breathtakingly beautiful city that sits along the Cache la Poudre River, and right on the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills of the northern Front Range. You can actually boat your way to all of the major city attractions, which will give you the opportunity to take in all of the lovely historical homes and buildings. It’s also the home of Colorado State University.
When most people think of Colorado, they automatically think of the city of Denver, but Fort Collins is an entirely different experience. The many historical buildings in Downtown Fort Collins have been expertly preserved. Also, many do not know that Disneyland’s Main Street USA was modeled after Downtown Fort Collins. You can experience so much culture and diversity just within the radius of a few blocks. Downtown is also bursting at the seams with a spirit of entrepreneurship. New businesses are bringing life into the city while still preserving the original ambiance of a historical town.

Housed in the scenic area of Fort Collins Old Town historic area, is what is called The Creative District. There you will find an abundance of culture and creative outlets such as music venues, theatres, performance centers, eateries, shops, over 20 art galleries, and city officials are always looking to expand on more. Home to an incredible selection of outdoor recreational activities, there are always various cultural activities for you and your family to take part in, such as the science and history exhibits at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. Whether you want to enjoy a stage performance, paint a mural, enjoy the widely known music scene, set up an easel and paint the sights, or one of many other activities, you can find something to do year-round, no matter the season. Not to mention, that you will save on gym memberships because with just over 600 acres of parks, 40,000 acres of nature areas, and 20 miles of hiking and biking trails, you will never be at a shortage for places to get in your daily exercising.
